I’m Not Alone

Day 1 – March 19, 2017

If there’s anything I’ve learned for sure, it is that I’m most definitely NOT ALONE. From pre-trip, to starting, hiking, and completing my first day, this is overwhelmingly apparent.

Leading up to the trail, especially the last 10 days, I’ve been overwhelmed by the immense support and care that friends and family have expressed! Everyone has gone far and above in expressing their support and good wishes and prayers. Wow, wow, WOW… I am beyond loved.

I’m physically not alone. I started the trail (1 mile to the southern terminus and back) with my biggest supporters in life – my mom and dad. They’ve been the true champions for being supportive while I’ve been prepping for three months at home. Thanks for trusting me and letting me go on this crazy adventure.

Joining in accompanying me to Springer and beyond (for 5 days) are the best hiking buddies I could ask for. Libby and Emily are rock stars for spending their Spring Break hiking with me! Fun times have been had, and there are many more to come.

In addition to them, it’s thru-hiker season! I’ve seen dozens of others out there today, and made news friends with 10 people tonight, as we bonded over the warmth of the campfire.

Last, but certainly not least, I have God looking out for me. Leading up to today, I’ve had almost no nerves at all. I believe it is because it is exactly where I am supposed to be. This is home for 5 months.

I am most definitely not alone.

  1. Stoked to see you doing this Tess! Wish you all the best of luck! If you need any tree guidance/ID, feel free to seek me out. Happy hiking!

  2. Reminds me of my favorite Bible verse. Joshua 1:9. Be strong and courageous for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
